About the Program
Digital Nomad Residence — is a residence permit in Spain for citizens of countries outside the European Union who work remotely for a foreign company or conduct remote professional activities.
Formally, this status appeared thanks to the startup law Ley 28/2022, adopted on December 21, 2022.
Who can apply for digital nomad status:
Employed workers — employees of foreign companies who can document at least 3 months of experience with the company and have official employer permission for remote work
Freelancers and independent professionals — specialists who provide services to clients (legal entities) remotely, provided that the majority (80%) are located outside Spain.

With this type of residence, you get the opportunity to:
legally reside in Spain and work remotely for a foreign company or provide services to foreign clients
bring family members: spouse, partner (without marriage registration), children or parents (subject to their financial support). Adult family members receive the right to work in Spain without restrictions
travel freely throughout the Schengen Area countries
open bank accounts in Spain without restrictions (no limit on cash balance)
have access to the Spanish healthcare and education system
apply for long-term residence (permanent residence) after 5 years of living in Spain, and after 10 years — citizenship.

Renewal of Digital Nomad Residence Permit
After obtaining a digital nomad residence permit, it's important to remember that the residence permit has a validity period, and renewal or modification of status is necessary for continued stay in Spain.
When and Where to Apply
The renewal application can be submitted 60 days before the expiration of the current residence. Documents are also submitted electronically online through the official portal of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration UGE (Unidad de Grandes Empresas).
For What Period It's Issued
Usually 1–2 years depending on the initial permit.
What Documents Are Needed
To process the renewal of a digital nomad residence permit, you need to provide:
scan of valid TIE card
scan of registration at place of residence in Spain (empadronamiento)
Modelo 790 012 receipt and proof of state fee payment (€16.08)
all documents from the package for initial residence permit application, except for diploma, certificate and declaration of no criminal record, Modelo 790 038 receipt
When renewing a digital nomad residence permit in Spain, family members usually submit documents simultaneously with the main applicant.
