List of Documents for Residence Permit and Digital Nomad Visa

For applying for a digital nomad residence permit, all documents are translated into Spanish and submitted online in electronic format (scans of originals + translations).

💡

For some documents, 📍jurado translation is mandatory — this is a translation into Spanish performed and certified by a sworn translator from the official registry of translators.

For applying for a digital nomad visa through consulates, paper originals and jurado translations of all documents are submitted.

An apostille is placed on the originals of official documents for international use:

  • education diploma

  • marriage certificate (exception — documents from the Russian Federation)

  • birth certificate (exception — documents from the Russian Federation)

  • company registration document

  • criminal record certificate

According to a bilateral agreement between Spain and Russia, certificates issued by the Russian Federation's civil registry office (ZAGS) are recognized in Spain without the need for apostille. However, in practice, regional immigration offices often request it, so we recommend obtaining an apostille for these documents in advance.

Documents for the main applicant (titular)

  1. Application form MI-T (for residence permit) or application Solicitud de visado nacional (for visa)

  2. Scans of all pages of a valid passport with entry stamp to Spain

  3. Entry declaration (Declaracion de Entrada), which must be requested at the police office at the airport within 3 business days after crossing the border — only for those entering Spain from a Schengen Agreement country

  4. Receipt Modelo 790 038 (can only be generated with digital signature) and proof of payment of state fee

  5. CV (resume) in Spanish

  6. 📍(jurado translation) Documents confirming professional qualifications: diploma of relevant education (corresponding to the position) or cumulative work experience in the specialty for at least 3 years (extract from employment record book)

  7. Bank statement confirming sufficient income from employment contract or service contract for the last 3 months

  8. 📍(jurado translation) Criminal record certificate with apostille from all countries where the applicant has resided for more than 6 months in the last 2 years ❗️NOT required if the applicant has a residence permit in Spain for more than 6 months.

  9. Declaration of no criminal record for the last 5 years (completed in the established form in Spanish)

  10. 📍(jurado translation) Extract from the Commercial Register of Companies or similar document confirming that the employer company or contractor has existed for more than 1 year

  11. Power of attorney for the person submitting documents with their digital signature (in case of submission through such person)

For employees

  1. 📍(jurado translation) Employment contract with a foreign company, confirming work experience in the current position for more than 3 months

  2. Payslips for the last 3 months

  3. Letter from the employer with permission for remote work from Spain (indicating the date and duration of the contract, position and income with equivalent in euros)

  4. Private health insurance valid in Spain with the condition sin carencias, sin copagos (without waiting period and without co-payments)

  5. One of 3 documents on social insurance:

  • 📍(jurado translation) Certificate from the Social Fund of Russia on departure (for employers from countries with which Spain has bilateral social security agreements)

  • Social security certificate in form A1 (for employers from the EU)

  • Certificate of employer registration in Spanish Social Security

For freelancers

  1. 📍(jurado translation) Service contract with a foreign company/client, concluded more than 3 months ago

  2. Invoices/acts of completed work for the last 3 months

  3. Document confirming the conditions under which professional activity will be carried out remotely

  4. One of the documents on social insurance:

  • Letter of commitment to register in Spain as autónomo (equivalent to sole proprietor) and register with the Spanish social security system RETA

  • Document on registration as sole proprietor or self-employed (if the applicant already has such registration)

Documents for family member (familiar)

  5. 📍(jurado translation) Criminal record certificate with apostille from all countries where the applicant has resided for more than 6 months in the last 2 years ❗️NOT required if the family member has a residence permit in Spain for more than 6 months.

  6. Declaration of no criminal record for the last 5 years (completed in the established form in Spanish)

  7. 📍(jurado translation) Marriage certificate (for spouse) or birth certificate (for children). If you are not married, you can formalize pareja (legal union without marriage registration) with a Spanish notary.

  8. Declaration of marriage/pareja (for spouse, partner) — document confirming that the relationship is valid at the time of document submission.

  9. Bank statement of the main applicant confirming income from employment contract or service contract for the last 3 months, sufficient for all family members. If income is insufficient, savings in the titular's bank account can be shown.

  10. (If the main applicant is an employee) Private health insurance for each family member, valid in Spain with the condition sin carencias, sin copagos

  11. (If the main applicant is a freelancer) Letter of commitment to register in Spain as autónomo and register with the Spanish social security system

  12. Power of attorney for the person submitting documents with their digital signature (in case of submission through such person)

Technical requirements for document package preparation

Document organization and scans:

  • for each applicant — a separate folder with documents

  • scans of all original documents must be clear, easily readable, without glare and cropped edges

  • all fillable forms (applications, declarations, powers of attorney) must be printed, signed and scanned

File format and size:

  • all documents — only in PDF, combine similar documents into one PDF file (for example, invoices or payslips by month, criminal record certificates from different countries of residence for 2 years, etc.)

  • maximum folder size — 24 MB. Compress files (for example, through services ilovepdf.com, https://www.iloveimg.com).

  • file names — only in Latin characters, without special symbols, spaces and commas. File names should be clear and reflect the essence of the document (birth_certificate, marriage_certificate, contract, CV, etc.)
