Extension of Digital Nomad Residence Permit: What Documents Are Required

For the digital nomad residence permit renewal procedure, all documents are translated into Spanish and submitted online in electronic format (high-quality color scans of originals + translations).

For some documents, a jurado translation is mandatory — this is a translation into Spanish performed and certified by a sworn translator from the official registry of translators.

An apostille is placed on original official documents for international use:

  • education diploma

  • marriage certificate (exception — documents from the Russian Federation)

  • birth certificate (exception — documents from the Russian Federation)

  • company registration document

  • criminal record certificate

According to a bilateral agreement between Spain and Russia, certificates issued by the Russian Federation's ZAGS (civil registry office) are recognized in Spain without the need for apostille. However, in practice, regional extranjería offices often request it, so we recommend obtaining an apostille for these documents in advance.

List of documents for the main applicant
  1. Passport (all pages) + TIE card (both sides)

  2. TASA 790 038 receipt and proof of state fee payment (approximately €80)

  3. Application form MI-T (with RENOVADA marked in the TIPO DE AUTORIZACIÓN field)

  4. Extract from the Commercial Register of Companies (or USRLE for companies from Russia) or similar document confirming that the employer company has existed for more than 1 year apostille + jurado translation

  5. Letter from the employer authorizing remote work from Spain (indicating the date and duration of the contract, position, and income with equivalent in euros)

  6. Documents confirming professional qualifications: diploma of relevant education apostille + jurado translation or cumulative work experience in the specialty for at least 3 years (extract from work record book or Vida laboral)

  7. CV (resume) in Spanish

  8. Bank statement showing contract payments for the last 3 months

  9. Certificates of no debt in Spain: for taxes and social security contributions

  10. Declaration of no criminal record

for employees

  1. Employment contract with a foreign companyjurado translation

  2. Payslips for the last 3 months

  3. Private health insurance valid in Spain with sin carencias, sin copagos conditions (without waiting period and without co-payments)

  4. Social insurance certificate from the company's country (for Russia — SFR Certificate of Departure) jurado translation

for freelancers

  1. Service contract jurado translation

  2. Proof of autónomo registration

  3. Invoices for the last 3 months

List of documents for family member
  1. Passport (all pages) + TIE card (both sides)

  2. TASA 790 038 receipt and proof of state fee payment (approximately €80)

  3. Application form MI-F (with RENOVADA marked in the TIPO DE AUTORIZACIÓN field)

  4. Private health insurance in Spain. Mandatory for everyone if the nomad is employed.

  5. Certificate of no criminal record (for all family members over 18 years old)

  6. Proof of relationship and dependency:

  • Spouse/partner: marriage certificate apostille + jurado translation/pareja certificate

  • Children under 18: birth certificate apostille + jurado translation

  • Children over 18: birth certificate apostille + jurado translation + proof of dependency jurado translation

  • Parents: proof of relationship apostille + jurado translation + proof of dependency jurado translation

Marriage/pareja certificate is not mandatory for renewal, but we recommend submitting them.

Documents NOT REQUIRED for renewal:

  • registration (empadronamiento)

  • proof of staying in Spain for more than 183 days

  • certificates of no criminal record

  • tax returns
